Inu's second vaccination

We took inu to a veterinary clinic on Saturday for her second vaccination and some consultations. The overall process was smooth. This was the first time inu sat in our car and she kept humming all the way to the clinic. We originally thought inu would feel timid at a new clinic place but she adapted to the new environment fast and started sniffing and chewing things very soon.

Inu weighted about 4.4 Kg on the scale before the doctor injected the vaccine through her back skin. Inu screamed a bit but the whole process lasted only a few seconds. Inu sure was brave. The doctor fed inu one half of the deworm pill also. It should last inu until the next vaccination time.

We decided to get inu a nail clipper as she jumped on us quite frequently and her nails were scratching our legs. Clipping nails for inu was quite an experience. Luckily we got necessary clipping nail knowledge from the doctor not to clip the red vessel in the nail. Clipping nail for the first time was essential for inu to decide if she would let us clip her nails again in the future. It took four hands and a muzzle to hold inu still so that we could clip and polish her nails. It was not easy as inu constantly struggled trying to run away.

Inu looked tired and slept more during the day after the vaccination. Doctor told us that this was normal and even if inu would develop fever, let it cure by itself. On the bright site, it freed us some personal time and we were able to take some great photos of inu.

Inu has been doing extremely well for not doing poo poo in the house for more than 1 week now. She would walk to back yard to poo all this while when she felt it. I have trusted inu on her ability to handle this. On the other hand, however, inu seemed to do worse to pee on her designated cage. There was a time inu peed in the house three times a night. Sometimes, once or twice. But sometimes, she would walk to her cage to pee. I think inu was confused where to pee. I still need to give her more time.

Blogger blocked my inusan [-(

Can you ever believe that Blogger would pick my inusan out of a gezillion blogging sites and block it as a potential spam site??? More toys for inu

We bought two more toys for inu yesterday. A plastic baseball and a bright pink squeaking plastic sandal. They appeared strangers to inu at the beginning but inu soon picked up the baseball as it would roll and inu could chase. And of course, one more thing for the monster inu, the anti-chewing spray >:). The lower corner of the toilet door was seriously damaged by inu's continuous attack from home alone yesterday. The webcam showed it all, inu, don't deny.

Inu was doing great yesterday for not doing her business in the home at all. I left her play outside the house and she would pee before coming in to the house. I was very impressed. She would find her way to the backyard to poo most of the time. Sometimes, inu would repeatedly pee in her designated cage to get some play time in reward. I don't know where did she get so many pees. I have seen inu drinking a lot of water, but I sincerely doubted that she was that smart :).

I had a good exercise with inu last night by letting her chasing me up and down on the stair :D. Inu got tired rather soon and she eventually gave up chasing me since she could not climb the stair anymore. I put her back in her cage and she felt asleep very soon. I woke up this morning and inu was still sleeping. You sure were very tired.

Hand..., inu, hand...

I was very impressed on how fast inu picked up the tricks we wanted her to do. We started asking inu to sit by offering some treats, inu did it well in one day. After a few days of repeated training to make sure inu actually understand the word 'sit', we switched to asking for inu's hand before giving her treats only a few days (about 4 days) ago. Of course, inu did not understand the command at the beginning. Surprisingly, inu gave us her hand on Sunday when we asked for it with treats in our hands. We repeated this process for a few times and inu did it well perfectly. We were so thrilled. Eventually, we just stood still with treats in hand and said 'hand..., inu, hand...' without extending our hands, inu was giving her hand to us. She sure understood the word 'hand'. It was a great feeling moment in our lives.

Inu was making more progress on house breaking. She started to understand the word 'pee pee' and she could do it right more than half of the time now. She would sometimes pee at the right place when we asked her to go pee pee. It sure took a lot of time and effort to monitor inu's every move and to work closely with inu to make the process is right. It was so funny that inu would sometimes walk and pee at her designated cage by herself in order to get our praise and play time. We suspected inu did that purposely but also doubted that inu was that smart. Anyway, it was so great to know that inu sure was growing up and tried her best to understand the human world.

We roughly measured inu again over the weekend again form front toe to back toe and the length was estimated at about 64 cm now. Inu sure was growing up fast. We she extended her body in her cage, the front and back toes were actually coming out of her cage now. We were so excited about her growing up but also surprised it was that fast. And here came our nightmare this morning, inu pulled down all the toilet papers from the roll in the toilet and tore them into pieces. I stared at inu but couldn't resist the funny feeling from my heart. I finally put a smile on my face.

Inu de monster

We decided to give inu a nick name, inu de monster, for monster like behavior in the past few days.

Inu still chewed almost everything in the house and bit our hands and foot hard. She looked very depressed and pity when I put her on muzzle. After releasing from muzzle, she was going crazy again. As predicted, inu did her pee and poo in the kitchen and living room for revenge that night. Inu was a bit afraid of me nowadays when I raised my palm. She would jump around and bark at me. This was the first time I heard inu's puppy bark, so crispy but yet so loud and clear. We would play chase and catch all around the house. Sometimes I felt so sorry for smacking inu but she was too naughty.

On the bright side, inu has made some progress on house breaking. There were a few instances that inu would walk to her cage by herself to pee and to the backyard to poo. In return, I praised her loudly and played with her for about 5-10 minutes. As we thought inu had become so smart as she had learned where to do her business, she still did it randomly in the house. Not only as we thought inu was confused, we were confused too.

We noticed that inu has started to crave for food lately. Not for her own dog food, but the human food. Every time I was standing by the kitchen counter to prepare something, inu would jump on me asking for food. She would reject her own food when I fed her. Apparently, the dog food manufacturers need to do more homework. I fed inu with some fresh vegetable, carrot, and fruits like apple, honey dew, and watermelon lately, thinking they should be good for inu. But inu's poo poo turned out to be watery in the past few days and that started to worry me. We decided to cut inu off from human food and see if the situation would improve.

Cheaper by inu

We survived more than 1 week now. Watching inu growing up everyday, it kept reminding me of the movie 'Cheaper by the dozen.' I found myself constantly juggling between work time, personal time, and time for inu. We have to rush back and forth between house and work during one hour lunch break. Fed ourselves, fed inu and played with her for a little bit. Then watched her cried sadly when we were leaving again.

I have sacrificed one hour of sleep time everyday and I found myself yawning constantly at wok. In addition to less sleep, stress and sore limbs have also built into this factor. We used to mop the floor every week and we needed to do this almost everyday to eliminate the smell and messes caused by inu.

We could not even sit down quietly for a nice dinner or TV show since inu kept running around and chewing things that she was not suppose to chew. We have to constantly monitor inu's every move. The easiest solution would be putting inu back to her cage but I felt that it's too cruel for inu as she has been staying in her cage for the whole day. Well, plus a toilet playground, which is not too bad for inu. But this is not the solution to fix her bad habit.

Inu has been biting us furiously with her sharp teeth lately and we decided to get her a muzzle. The pet shop personnel looked at us surprisingly and said that this was common for puppy. But to us, biting and leaving scars on our hands and foot is absolutely unacceptable. How would children play with her? In addition, inu would lose her temper while playing crazily. The more we said no and blocked her from doing something, the more she wanted and would fight to do. Finally, we got a perfect muzzle for her.

Inu was going crazy again and we decided to put the muzzle on her. Her first reaction was surprised, scared, nervous, like what the hack was this thing. Inu struggled very hard trying to remove it but the muzzle was a perfect fit. We removed the muzzle after about 20 seconds. Inu cooled down immediately, kind a loss, but at least she was quite behaving in the next hour, chewing only her toys.

But I am sure it won't take long for inu to forget about the muzzle and biting again.

Inu is growing up

Inu will be with us for one full week by the end of today. I can feel that she is growing up since a week ago, not only mentally, but also physically, from a timid puppy then, to a monster now.

My mistake for not taking a measure for inu a week ago when she came. I spent a long time to calm her down by letting inu chewing her door stopper plastic toy last night. Then I was able to straighten her whole body by measuring from front toe to back toe at about 55-57 cm. Inu weighted about 3.5 kg. You sure are a fat puppy.

Housebreaking is still a nightmare although inu has made some noticeable progress. She knew to pee/poo at the lawn when we let her out and play. While playing at home, she still peed at random spots. Worst of all, she peed at the place/mat/tower where she slept. I thought everybody said that puppies never peed at the place where they slept. My inu is just a monster. She even peed at the mat while she was lying on the mat. How could you be that lazy.

The cute inu grew to a monster in the evening. She would bite/chew/scratch almost everything she could find, table stands, sofa, frige, wardrobe, doors, shoes, sandals, and worst of all, she would bite hard on our toes, foot, fingers, and wrist trying to snap our sandal. That left a 2 cm scar on my wrist. The louder I shouted No, the more stubborn she became. When I tried to stop inu from biting something by holding her head, she would struggle with all forces and bit my hands trying to get away. I have a monster inusan.

On the bright site, I have taught inu to sit. She would get a vege/apple treat for the reward and she seemed to like it, and she performed well every time.

Nini: “So what? I can even roll, spin, and clap. Best of all, I am not a Monster.”

Smile Inu, you're on candy camera

I set up a webcam in my kitchen so that I can view inu's every move from work. Too bad my company blocks all IM services as well as video conferencing through IM. Otherwise, I can continuously monitor inu while I am working in front of the computer. As a workaround, I installed a remote desktop controlling application that allows me to view inu as well. The stupid thing is that the software claims that user can work through any web browser. I realized that it worked only with IE. Darn, my company is one of the typical open source heavy users and most of us are using Linux. Luckily Ah D is using Windows.

Inu is quite behaving while we are at work. Although she cries quite sadly when we are leaving, she claims down rather quickly and sleeps most of the time, she will walk in and out between her cage and toilet from time to time, jumping in the toilet trying to reach for the toilet paper and the water tank. Adding to that, inu has quite a few sleeping poses and she sleeps almost everywhere in her cage.

I turned on radio for inu today before leaving for work. Inu seemed to behave better and she slept most of the time when we were away. I watched inu right after arriving at work and noticed inu has already gone to sleep, and she did not seem to wake up until lunch time with Ah D. That's amazing...

Lucky nini, you have a whole bed to roll and sleep. I don't want to hear you complain again.

Inu, say cheese...

I took some cute digital photos for inu over the weekend. I just could not find the time to upload the pictures yet. Don't know where all my time has gone. I kinda miss the good old boring days where I can sit in front of TV surfing net whole night without standing up, just plain lazy. I always take a moment to appreciate the boring moment of my life, without thinking anything, doing anything, just sitting there with an empty mind, it was a great feeling. With inu, this moment becomes more and more precious to me.

Inu does not seem to howl over night anymore. When I walked downstair in the morning to see her, she would sit quietly in her cage facing the door of my entrance, she could have heard the door opening and disarming alarm sounds from upstair. The moment she saw me, she started crying again. I did not give full attention right away. Instead, I went for some chores for a couple minutes then I led her to the toilet to do her business. Inu is still far from well trained in doing her business, but she has made good progress. At least in the last couple of times, Inu was able to do her business first at the right place before I let her out. She still once a while made pee/poo around the house at random spots. She is still a puppy. I read one website mentioning that it would take beagle longer (about 4-6 months) to complete housebreaking. Oh well, I can see a lot more chores to do around the house.

Inu's second night

Well done... Nini, well done. Thank you so much for looking after inu whole night. You should be very tired. I am so proud of you, I love you so much. Rest well...

I think I have some kind of emotion complications from worrying inu for her first few nights. I woke up at 4:30 am, imagining hearing inu crying again. I leaned on the door seam again but heard nothing. What a relief. I woke up at 5:30 am again and decided to walked downstair to check on inu again. She was sleeping tight, leaning her head on her water bowl. I woke up at 7 am again, another relief hearing nothing from the door seam. I eventually woke up at 8 am and went downstair to check inu. She was sitting against the cage, appeared to be waiting for me. The moment she saw me, she was jumping and crying. I found some poos at the the corner of the toilet. Inu did not eat her own poo this time, good gal, I praised. Noticing a few pee marks, I was not quite sure if inu needed to go again. Several attempts to ask her to pee again without successful, I let her out to play. Inu peed at the kitchen corner a few minutes later, sigh... what can I say. I know I still have a long way to go to train inu doing business. Looks like patience is the key.

Inu had another exhausted play at my front yark lawn in the morning. I took a few pictures. She was so excited on the lawn, hopping around, keep pulling the grass and chew on dried leaves. I know she loves it so much.

Poor nini, sleep well, you need rest now.

Inu's first night

I woke up 6 am this morning, removing my ear plugs, I could seem to hear inu screaming. But I wasn't quite sure. It could be my imagination. I walked to the door and leaned my ear on the door seam, inu sure was screaming (or crying) out loud. I didn't know how long she'd been crying. I was very worry that it might disturb the neigbhors. I walked downstair, pat on her cage and asked her to keep quiet. It took a while for her to claim down. I sat on the floor, inu seemed to feel relief seeing me next to her cage. I think she has been tired screaming
whole night and she went to sleep again...

I took a rest and woke up at 7:30 am, imaginging inu is crying again, I walked downstair to see her. She was quiet and sleeping like a baby now (She is still a baby). Sensing me around, inu woke up and started jumping around and yelling. I knew she wanted out and she must be very hungry now. We prepared her breakfast. To our surprise, inu did not finish her breakfast. She also did not finish her dinner. Hmm... I though all beagles are the same, eat
all you can. May be I need to change her food.

Training inu doing her business on the first day was a BIG failure. I tried to keep inu in the rest room full of papers as long as possible until she does her business, it was not successful. Inu made her first pee in the middle of my kitchen, subsequent ones near to the wall, near to the rest room, none on the paper. Inu made her first poo right at the entrance to the kitchen, unfortunately, she ate them while we were not around (yuk!). Second poo right at the same place after she came back to the house from playing crazily on the grass field outside of the house. It was too late for me to rushed her to the rest room. So I ended up cleaning all your businesses whole day. I used up the whole roll of toilet paper [-(.

It's been 24 hours with inu, I realized that inu will follow everywhere we go in the house. When we are eating dinner, she lied down quietly beside our feet. While we are watching TV, she would, from time to time, watch TV with us (inu was really looking at the TV). She would lied beside my feet most of the time and lean her jaw on my toes.

Inu has been a very cute and quiet dog in the house. Once she is outside on the grass field, she is like typical beagle, sniff around, hop around, eat everything she could find on the ground. I have been busy digging dried leaves out of her mouth. Somehow, she likes to bite the grass and pull them out. She was playing too crazily at one time and I decided to put her back to the house. Inu was struggling with all forces trying to get away from my hands. But once she got back to the house, she was like a cute baby. Oh mine... oh mine...

Tonight will be inu's second night. We have been thinking putting inu's cage beside our bed. That way inu may feel us around and may not cry at night. But this is not the long term solution to train inu. We decided to isolate inu and see how it will work out. Anyway, we don't need to work tomorrow.

"Nini, thanks for accompanying inu today, I think she likes you".

Nini: "I don't like her... :("

Inu is finally here

Inu is with us now, sleeping like a baby in her new cage. We also got her a toy today, together with a water bowl, food bowl, and a puppy shampoo. We decided to turn on the light and fan whole night in case she is still afraid of the new environment.

Inu is so naughty and yet so quiet and cute. Watching her hop and sniff around the house just make me smile from the heart. This is the first night she is sleeping in her new home. So far she is very quiet, does not seem to bark a lot yet. I got her a small mom-made carpet in her cage. She did not seem to like it at the begining, sleeping away from the carpet. Now I feel so relief seeing her sleeping nicely on the carpet. We took some cute photos for her. We will try our best to take more photos for her while she is growing up.

Nini: "See... I knew both of you would not care for me anymore."

"Don't be jealous lah", we said, "This is inu's first night here, of course we need to take care of her. You are still sleeping with us leh. See, inu is sleeping by her self lonely in the cage. Do you want to accompany her?"

Nini:" NOOOOOOO..."

Good night inu, sleep tight. We will see you again tomorrow morning.

Two more cute beagle puppies

We brought nini to see two more beagle puppies last night. One female slightly less than 2 months old and one male slightly more than 2 months old. They were jumping/running excitedly in a large iron cage the moment we arrived. Nini could only peek at them far away through the window at the back seat.

The male beagle was especially active, or should I say hyper-active. He was barking, running, jumping, biting the broom/iron bar, chewing the female beagle's ear all the time. Looking at the male beagle and my mind was flashing with images of my home, chewed wooden furnitures, scratched doors/windows, broken vases, missing items, anything you can think of...

The female beagle was a lot quieter and more beautiful, sitting and curling at the corner away from the male beagle. But the male beagle kept bullying the female beagle. The owner said that the female beagle did not have a certificate. Although it's a bit tempting at low asking price, we decided to go with the first female beagle puppy.

Nini insisted we get her the male beagle puppy [-(. “Your body will be torn apart cruelly into pieces and scattered all around the house, you want that?”, I asked. Nini: “... :(”.

I am now waiting anxiously to see inu tonight and her mother. Oh, darn, I have not bought you a cage yet... and toys, and food, and...

Decided to get a beagle puppy

This site will be solely dedicated for our future beloved beagle, whom we decided to call him/her inu, the Japanese version of 'dog', after we have been long struggling with his/her name.

Beni was the first beagle that I took great care of. She was 7 years old, should be 8 by now. She is a very beautiful (tricolor) and smart beagle. I jogged/walked her twice a day before I went to work and after I came back from work. She always greeted me half way on the stair at my shoulder height by sticking her head out of the bars when I walked in the front door. Whenever I raised my tone and asked her “wanna go out? Wanna go out?”, her eyebrows would raise and she would rush to the front door and replied with high pitch barks. She liked to curl up and lean on my hip while sleeping and watching TV. She would wake me up for food almost every morning. She craved for food like no tomorrow, therefore I like to close her behind a door and hide her treats around the house and let her run furiously in the house to sniff for her treats. She would get disappointed (sort of angry) and walked up the stairs, peeked at me a few more times, last peek at the stair corner that blocks her sight to me, and eventually walked into her room and buried herself under the blanket after I kept refusing to quench her craving for food. We were together for a merely 2 months period and I always remember how excited you were while I met you the first time. After I left, D told me that you were waiting/sleeping in my room whole day for a few days and eventually walked out with a disappointing look on the face. I missed you so much too.

So much for Beni. I think D can write a whole book for you. Ever since then, we named our own beagle snoopy nini, who can mimic human talks and gestures, smile whole day, and sleep 18 hours a day. Nini refused we name our future beagle puppy nini again, or even nini junior and ah ni. I think nini is jealous and anxious after overhearing our plan to get another beagle puppy. She is afraid our love to her will be shared by her new friend. I can assure you that it won't happen, okay?

We visited a few pet shops and hardly saw any beagle puppies. Some looked weak, and some were taken like no time. Eventually, we made an appointment with a beagle breeder to see the little puppy last night. She was so cute, about 7-week old, round and sleepy face, tricolor, almost evenly distributed. The moment she landed on our compound, she started sniffing and exploring the area with her trembling foot, picking up anything she could find on the ground. We were thrilled with this little cute puppy and decided to check on her mom 2 days later before the final decision to pick her up as our life-long companion.
